NBC announced Thursday (Aug. 26) that former 007 Timothy Dalton will appear in several episodes of “Chuck” this season. It’s his first appearance on an American network TV series since way back in 1979, when he guested on “Charlie’s Angels.” (He did appear in an episode of HBO’s “Tales from the Crypt” in the early ’90s.)

Dalton will be playing a “mysterious stranger” who has ties to Chuck’s (Zachary Levi) mom, who’s being played by Linda Hamilton. James Bond and Sarah Connor hanging out? The geek mind reels.

So, apparently, does that of “Chuck” co-creator Josh Schwartz. “So excited that Timothy Dalton is going to be on CHUCK!” Schwartz says via Twitter. “First Bond I saw in theaters and a great comic actor as well. Big arc!!!”

Dalton played James Bond in “The Living Daylights” and “Licence to Kill” in the late 1980s, bridging the Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan eras in the Bond film canon. He stars with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in “The Tourist” later this year; other recent credits include “Hot Fuzz,” a couple of guest shots on “Doctor Who” and voice work on “Toy Story 3.”

There’s no word yet on when Dalton will make his first appearance. “Chuck” begins its fourth season on NBC Monday, Sept. 20.
