News broke over the weekend that Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of R&B singer Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, is out of her three-month-long coma. Brown told an audience in Dallas that his daughter is awake. But that’s not the whole story, one that is still very hard for the family.
Cissy Houston, Bobbi’s maternal grandmother, clarified in a statement to E! News that her 22-year-old granddaughter is still unresponsive.
“While [Bobbi Kristina] is no longer in a medically-induced coma, she has a tracheotomy and according to the doctors, she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive,” says Houston. She adds that the family has had to come to an understanding that Bobbi could “live in this condition for a lifetime.”
Bobbi Kristina was found facedown in a bathtub full of water back in January and has been hospitalized ever since. Alicia Etheredge-Brown, Bobbi’s stepmother, says that rehabilitation will “be long and hard,” while Bobby Brown’s attorney says that Bobbi’s ultimate status remains up in the air as of now.
“There has been improvement,” the lawyer tells E! News. “Doctors have indicated that she will have a long life. However, Bobbi Kristina is presently embarking on a rehabilitation process and the quality of her life will not be known for years to come.”
