“American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken is apparently thinking about throwing his hat into the ring for the U.S. Congress. The Washington Blade reports two Democratic sources familiar with Aiken say that he is actively considering a run for the 2nd congressional district U.S. House seat in his home state of North Carolina.

The sources say that Aiken has consulted political advisors in Washington, D.C., trying to gauge support, and also spoken with Raleigh-based political strategic Betsy Conti. The Democratic primary for that district is set for May 6, so we’ll know soon enough if it is indeed true.

It’s hard to reconcile the above video with a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, but if the people below could go from entertainment to politics, then why not Aiken?

2. Sean Duffy wasn’t an actor or a singer, he was on the “Real World.” He married a fellow “Real World” alum, Rachel Campos, and now represents Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district.

3. Al Franken worked on “Saturday Night Live” for 15 of its first 20 seasons and now has been one of Minnesota’s senators since the 2008 election.

Fred Grandy, was elected to represent Iowa’s 6th (and then 5th, after redistricting) district in the U.S. House — and yes, that is him snuggling up to Jamie Lee Curtis.

5. Of course, Ronald Reagan is perhaps the biggest celeb-turned-politician. He was a heartthrob actor of the 1940s and ’50s, and then went from Governor of California to President of the United States — “I suppose Jane Wyman is the First Lady!”
