luke bryan cmas 2013 gi CMA Awards 2013: Luke Bryan's brain 'ain't shuttin' down 'til Saturday'Luke Bryan was typically genial and amusing on the CMA Awards red carpet Wednesday (Nov. 6), but he also had some serious thoughts.

Up for both Entertainer of the Year — the honor he won at last spring’s Academy of Country Music Awards — and Male Vocalist of the Year, Bryan told GAC’s Storme Warren he’d been up since 4 a.m. That’s no surprise, since he performed on ABC’s “Good Morning America” in service to the award show.

“I’ve tried to lie down three times to rest,” Bryan reports, but he was resigned to failure until the day’s events in Nashville were completely over: “My brain ain’t shuttin’ down ’til Saturday.”

Bryan had plenty of reason to be excited, since a night like this year’s CMAs was something the “Crash My Party” singer had long hoped for. “I’ve come to this show for so many years dreaming of [giving] one performance,” he says, “and now, I have two.”

And one was certain to be poignant, since his premiere of the tune “Drink a Beer” was intended as a tribute to his two late siblings: his brother Chris, a car-accident victim in 1996; and his sister Kelly, who died days after Bryan’s Grand Ole Opry debut in 2007, from what he says remains an undetermined cause.

In sharing his personal losses publicly — something he’s started to do only recently — Bryan reasoned that he wanted to let people know, “You’re not alone. Life bites you every now and then, but you’ve gotta get back goin’.”
