]]>Colin Firth is in talks to star in “Gambit,” a remake of the 1966 film starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. The film is about a cat burglar who attempts to rob a priceless statue from a billionaire and enlists the help of a waitress who looks like the target’s deceased wife. Firth would take on Caine’s role. The script is from Joel and Ethan Coen and will be directed by Michael Hoffman. [The Wrap]

Shia La-eouf and Tom Hardy’s Prohibition Era drama “The Wettest County” just scored its leading lady: Jessica Chastain. Chastain’s casting is set to put the project on its way to production. The producers are hoping to start filming in February 2011. [The Hollywood Reporter]

The first batch of Oscar presenters were announced by producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer and as usual, they include last year’s Best Actor and Actress winners, and Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock. Three past winners will also present this year: Halle Berry, Marisa Tomei and Oprah Winfrey. Last year’s Best Supporting Actor and Actress Christoph Waltz and Mo’Nique haven’t been confirmed. Neve Campbell is in talks to join Josh Hartnett in “Singularity,” a  film that revolves around intertwining souls, past lives and a ring and takes place in 1778 and 2015. Hartnett will play two characters (an archeologist and a British captain in colonial India) while Campbell will play his wife and fellow archeologist in 2015, who gets stuck in a sunken ship will trying to retrieve the aforementioned ring.
