colin powell barack obama Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama for the second presidential election

As election day comes closer and closer, supporters for both candidates are coming forth to let their voices be heard. One of them is former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who jumped from the Republican party following the Bush administration in 2008 to support Barack Obama.

“I voted for him in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012, and I’ll be voting for he and for Vice President Joe Biden next month,” Powell tells CBS News. “When he took over the country was in very, very difficult straits, we were in one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression. We were in real trouble.”

So why not Mitt Romney? Powell says he has the “utmost respect” for the Republican candidate, but calls his foreign policy a “moving target.” He explains, “The governor who was speaking on Monday night at the debate was saying things that were quite different from what he’s said earlier, so I’m not quite sure what Governor Romney we would be getting with respect to foreign policy.”

Celebrities have come forth from both sides of the political spectrum to support their favorite candidates. People from Tom Hanks to Eva Longoria have endorsed Obama, while Romney has seen support from Gene Simmons and Chuck Norris. In the end, First Lady Michelle Obama says it best when she encourages people to just get out and vote, regardless of who you’re voting for.
