“Napoleon Dynamite’s” adaptation from cult movie classic to animated TV series has pretty much everything going for it — a “Simpsons” writer at the helm, a stellar regular cast and a built-in fan base. And, at a Thursday (July 21) Comic-Con press conference, writer Mike Scully dished about four guest stars scheduled to appear in the show’s first six-episode season.
The show already managed to sign all the principal actors from the movie — from lead Jon Heder (Napoleon) to Jon Gries (Uncle Rico and “Lost’s” Roger Linus) to Tina Majorino (Deb) and Efren Ramirez (Pedro). Even Sandy Martin (Grandma) — like Majorino, a a “Big Love” alum — and the multi-talented Diedrich Bader (Rex).
Scully said the show hit the ground running with several writers he managed to snag from “The Simpsons” and the cooperation of writer/director Jared Hess, who made the original 2006 indie hit.
Oh, and to answer the burning question, yes, we will see more of Grandma in the series.
“She sort of rules the roost,” said Martin.
“Napoleon Dynamite” debuts on FOX, Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET, this fall.
