The movie that started as a fake trailer at the beginning of 2007’s “Grindhouse” is getting a sequel. As well it should. On Friday (July 22) at Comic-Con director Robert Rodriguez announced plans for not just one, but two sequels to the fabulously campy “Machete.”
“Machete” stars long-time stunt man/actor Danny Trejo as a killer with a heart of gold who goes on a murderous rampage after finding out he was betrayed by his former boss. The strong cast also includes “Lost” alums Michelle Rodriguez and Jeff Fahey, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, and Don Johnson as a crooked cop. Oh, and Lindsay Lohan as a cinema veritas scantily-clothed mess.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Rodriguez talked about a second installment of the film, already greenlighted for production. But wait, there’s more: Rodriguez said a third movie is in the planning stages that will — we kid you not — allegedly take place in space.
And about that long-awaited 3-D follow-up to 2005’s “Sin City” that he’s working on with comic book artist Frank Miller? No one has yet been cast, but Rodriguez said he’d like to have back several folks from the original cast — Mickey Rourke, please! — and start filming this fall.
