godzilla movie poster wb legendary Comic Con 2012: Gareth Edwards' 'Godzilla' remake trailer attacks San DiegoThe Hall H crowd got a major surprise at Saturday’s Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment movie panel at Comic-Con in San Diego — a sneak peek at the new “Godzilla” and an appearance by director Gareth Edwards.

The trailer begins with a scene of a city completely destroyed with wreckage everywhere. Cars are crushed. Buildings are decimated. The dead body of a giant centipede-like creature is seen smoldering.

An ominous voiceover quotes physicist Robert Oppenheimer’s remarks about the atomic bomb: “We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita takes on his multi-armed form and says, ‘Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.'”

And then we hear the roar, and Godzilla’s face appears.

Goose. Bumps.

Edwards tells the crowd that he doesn’t think of “Godzilla” as a sci-fi movie because it’s very real. And like the original, he isn’t going for camp on any level with this remake.

Legendary also unveiled new artwork for the film (above) on its Facebook page Saturday.

Are you excited to see “Godzilla”?
