ben affleck senator john kerry gi Could Ben Affleck succeed John Kerry in the Senate? Actor is mum on campaign plansBen Affleck is a name that has been floated among a small pool of candidates to replace John Kerry in the Massachusetts Senate, should Kerry get the Secretary of State job when Hillary Clinton steps down in early 2013.

Politico says actor, director, and political activist Affleck declined to comment on the matter while in Washington to speak to lawmakers about violence in the Congo.

“That’s not what I’m here to talk about,” Affleck says. “I’m here to talk about what role we can play in making the Eastern Congo a better place.” Though he did flash a smile at reporters when telling them “I’m at home” inside the Rayburn House Office Building, which is actually home to congress members.

In his videotaped testimony before the House Armed Services Committee, Affleck shares shocking statistics from the Congo and says he’s not asking for “precious American tax dollars” to help the Congolese, but instead wants American leaders to put a heavy lean on the parties involved to talk things out.

“I may be naive,” says Affleck. “But I believe that our actions in foreign policy represent our values as a country. They represent who we are as a people. Soon I will be making my 10th trip to Congo, and I know that if your constituents were to go to Congo and see what is happening there, they would insist we do something about it.”

Sounds like he’s already on the right track. Could an upcoming Senate run be the reason Ben dropped out of his sex scene-filled romp with Kristen Stewart?
