keith olbermann 'Countdown with Keith Olbermann' sets Current TV premiere date

Keith Olbermann has finalized plans to return to TV after his sudden departure from MSNBC in January.

Current TV announced June 20 as the premiere date for “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.” The new series (with an old name) will air weeknights at 8 p.m. ET.

In a statement from the network, Current CEO Mark Rosenthal explains that the new incarnation of “Countdown” will debut with a bit of a face lift. “The show will combine familiar and popular features with some new elements that we can’t wait to unveil,” he says. “We’re creating a great platform for Keith’s style, which includes a very sophisticated digital presence for him — that we think will appeal to his very enthusiastic and active following. The show will also appeal to new viewers tuning into Keith for the first time.”

As a part of his deal with Current, announced shortly after his MSNBC departure, Olbermann also serves as Current’s Chief News Officer.

Current, founded in 2005 by former Vice President Al Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt, is available in roughly 75 million homes worldwide.
