ghostbusters 290 Dan Aykroyd: 'Ghostbusters 3' will be cast with unknownsWho ya gonna call? Nobody we know, if Dan Aykroyd gets his way for “Ghostbusters 3.”

In recent years, attempts at a third “Ghostbusters” flick have been hampered by attempts to convince reticent cast members — Bill Murray, we’re looking at you — to revisit their ’80s characters. Aykroyd may have found a way around that by vowing to cast unknowns in a movie he says is “very close” to happening.

“I hope it’s a nice mix, maybe two guys and two girls,” the actor told New York magazine Oct. 28. “We’ll find some great young actors. We’re probably going to search for unknowns.”

As with many of the rumored plots over the past few years — not to mention that of the “Extreme Ghostbusters” cartoon — the story would have the classic ‘Busters handing over the reigns to some young guns.

“I want to retire and hand it over to a young cadre and cadet who can pick up the equipment and drive the car because I’m too old for that now,” Aykroyd said.

Incidentally, that’s part of the plot of a “Ghostbusters” video game released earlier in 2009. That game featured the voices of Aykroyd, Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as the Ghostbusters and garnered praise for its theatrical atmosphere. The plot was also reportedly good enough to have Murray interested in returning to his character on the big screen.
