Chad Ochocinco is hardly a shrinking violet on the football field, so it was interesting to see him tell his “Dancing with the Stars” partner, Cheryl Burke, not to praise him unless he really deserves it.

Ochocinco, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson, had the leadoff spot on the “DWTS” season premiere Monday night (March 22) and danced a cha-cha-cha to the funk strains of “It’s Just Begun by the Jimmy Castor Bunch.

The judges appeared to like him — “You came out like a tiger,” Len Goodman said — but the praise didn’t translate to the scores. He got sixes across the board for a total of 18. Yeah, there were some quibbles about his technique, but that doesn’t quite seem to match up with Carrie Ann Inaba telling him, “There’s some raw something happening that’s going to take you very far.”
