JR-Martinez-Karina-Smirnoff-cropped.jpgJ.R. Martinez had an amazing night on “Dancing With the Stars.” Not only did he get three 10’s for his first dance with partner Karina Smirnoff, but he repeated his perfect score for his instant jive. Zap2it caught up with J.R. and Karina backstage after the show and got his take on the night.

This is the second week in a row that J.R. has sung a Justin Bieber ditty. He told us, “Biebs showed me love last week and ‘Congratulations on all your success.’ It was really cool. You know, he’s doing major things out there in the world, and the fact that he’s able to acknowledge what I’ve been able to accomplish so far is really cool. And I think it’s a great song. “Never Say Never.” It’s something that all of us should learn.”

Karina, who yelled “Man love!” at J.R. while he was talking about Bieber, commented on his perfect score. “It’s absolutely amazing. And we worked so hard. You know the moment when you finish with the dance? We were already ecstatic. It felt like we nailed it. But then when we got the perfect score, that’s when we started floating in the air…” J.R. said, “I was like a kid. I dropped to the floor and said oh wait, Karina’s not down here, so I got back up and gave her a big hug,” he laughed.

“Everyone wants to get that perfect score. The first perfect score of Season 13. And that was in the back of my mind as well. But I felt good about the waltz and I felt that potentially 30-worthy, but to get 2 … Amazing.”

J.R. will be on this week’s episode of “Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition” this week for Veterans Day and gave us his feelings on it. “It was great to have vets in the audience tonight. And with Veterans Day on November 11th, I want to use my platform to raise awareness for our men and women in uniform and their families and all the things they sacrifice and all the things they go through on a daily basis when they’re overseas and then the difficulties and obstacles they face when they finally come home. Sometimes that’s the biggest war and it’s a tough battle to win. The only way you win it is to have support from people back home. It’s important for me to get America to understand-to separate the politics from the service members and the families.”

“To have service members in the audience, and to take part in “Extreme Home Makeover,” and have them raise money and raise awareness and build more houses for troops and their families. That’s an amazing start for a lot of guys. They can finally say you know what? I can finally go out there and do what I want to do now that I’m out of the military. I want to use this platform to raise awareness.”

War hero, dancing star, activist … we love you J.R.!
