christian bale gary oldman dark knight rises premiere 'Dark Knight' star Christian Bale: 'My heart goes out' to theater shooting victimsBatman himself, Christian Bale, has broken his silence in the wake of the tragic shootings that took place on Friday (July 20) in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 people dead and scores more injured when a gunman opened fire in a theater showing Bale’s new movie, “The Dark Knight Rises.”

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” Bale says in a statement. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

Fellow castmate Gary Oldman also released a statement Saturday:

“My prayers and deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families of this horrific act.,” Oldman says.

On Friday, director Christopher Nolan commented on the shootings, too, labeling the event an “appalling crime.”

“The Dark Knight Rises” is the culmination of Nolan’s Bale-fronted Batman trilogy.
