Three months later, the time has come for him to begin his new chapter as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Before heading out, 21-year-old Archuleta made sure to leave his fans a farewell video blog, titled “It’s Not Goodbye” on his YouTube account.
“This will be the last one that I make just from home and being able to be free, not as a missionary, and stuff,” he says.

He talks about his mindset as he embarks. “It’s been a very emotional last week,” he says. “I was able to have a lot of family and a lot of
friends come. I gave my farewell, kind of my last talk this Sunday just to my
neighbors, my friends and my family… It’s a decision everyone knows
about but it’s still, like, a very personal thing and I wanted to keep it that way, so I hope you guys respect that, and you guys have, so I appreciate that.”

He expresses some concerns about how much he’ll miss his family, but then turns his attention to his fans. “I’m going to miss being able to talk to all of you, let you know what’s going on, sharing my thoughts and weird random things that I’m doing or thinking about. I appreciate that you guys have still been there.” He thanked his fans for a video they made him, adding, “I wouldn’t be here without all of you guys doing what you do… it’s more like you guys have brought me on this journey.”

Though he says he’s excited to head to South America, he warns fans that he won’t be able to include them on his journey. “I’m trying to focus on something else there, not my career. I’m going
to be trying my best to focus on the people over there, and more
one-on-one experiences.”
