david o russell abc series gi David O. Russell departs 'The Club' as ABC series sets Callie Hernandez as first cast memberAfter a flirtation with a television series, it turns out that David O. Russell just wasn’t able to commit.

The Oscar-nominated writer/director has left the ABC drama he co-wrote and was set to executive produce with Susannah Grant, Deadline reports. The series, now titled “The Club,” received a straight-to-series order in late January, becoming Russell’s first major foray into TV work, outside executive producing the short-lived Syfy comedy “Outer Space Astronauts” in 2009.

Russell’s exit from “The Club,” an upstairs-downstairs soap set at a country club, will not affect the series order. In fact, the drama has cast its first actor. Callie Hernandez (“Sin City 2”) will play Ana, an employee of the club who secretly steals expensive items from her workplace and pawns them for cash.

Following his case of TV cold feet, Russell is expected to refocus on film, full-time.

Are you disappointed Russell will no longer be involved with “The Club”?
