David Petraeus resigned from his post as CIA Director amid revelations of an extramarital affair. As the story continues to unfold, it seems Petraeus’ affair was found out by the FBI during an investigation into threatening emails allegedly sent by his mistress, Paula Broadwell, to a mystery woman.
Now that the name of the woman is known — yet her relationship to the Petraeus-Broadwell affair is still relatively unclear — we are left to wonder, who is Jill Kelley, anyway?
USA Today says initial reports by the Associated Press that Kelley works for the State Department are false. Instead, she is a volunteer liaison to the MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
Jill has three children with her husband, Scott Kelley, a cancer surgeon. The couple has hosted many society parties in their “million-dollar home,” some of which have been attended by David and his wife, Holly Petraeus.
At 37 years of age, Kelly is a twin from Philadelphia. Her family is of Lebanese descent.
Jill and Scott have hired a crisis manager and an attorney, so don’t expect to be hearing from either of them directly any time soon. Instead, the new reps have released the following statement to the media, on behalf of the Kelleys:
“We and our family have been friends with General Petraeus and his family for over 5 years. We respect his and his family’s privacy and want the same for us and our three children.”
