Reid died Wednesday (Feb. 3) in Los Angeles, according to several reports. She was 95.

Her career in television spanned most of the history of the medium, stretching back to roles in iconic 1950s shows like “The Philco Television Playhouse” and “Studio One.” She also appeared in the CBS soaps “As the World Turns” and “The Edge of Night” in the early ’60s.

She’s best known, though, for her role as Alice Horton on “Days of Our Lives.” Reid was a member of the show’s original cast and remained a fixture for more than 40 years; her last appearance on the show was in December 2007. She won three Soap Opera Digest Awards for the role and was twice nominated for a Daytime Emmy; she also was given a lifetime achievement award at the Daytime Emmys in 2004.
