Since finishing up a rehab program for self-harm and an eating disorder, Demi Lovato has made considerable effort to keep her fans connected as she rebuilds her career. As a Seventeen Magazine guest editor, she’s written blog posts, and she’s continued to do live chats with fans and post video updates throughout her recovery.
This time, she’s opening up about her new album. After her tumultuous year, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that she’s drawn songwriting inspiration from her struggles.
“It’s been very therapeutic to be able to express my feelings and talk about who I really am, through my music,” she writes. She’s even looking at the big picture and the wider impact her record could have. “With my new album, I’m hoping to provide inspiration for girls
everywhere who are going through the same issues I’ve faced. I think
this will come through in a lot of the material. My first single is really special to me– to me it symbolizes my journey from the person I was to the
happy healthy person I am today, and the fact that people are able to
rise above anything, despite the odds.”
She describes the song as “empowering.” Lovato hopes to set a release date for the single in June, and to be back on tour by the end of the year.
