Thanks to the new Gatorade ad that pays tribute to baseball icon Derek Jeter, we’re in serious need of some tissues.
The emotional ad follows soon-to-be-retired Jeter as he travels through the Bronx by foot towards Yankee stadium, surprising fans along the way. As he walks from block to bock to the sound of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” the athlete shakes hands with fans, chats with bar-goers, and signs bats and posters.
But what makes his journey truly special is the pure joy that shines from the faces of those he greets, which, according to an Adweek interview with Molly Carter, Gatorade’s senior director of consumer engagement, are real. (We always knew some of those commercials had to be using real people’s reactions.)
The ad is set to air on Sat., Sept. 20 on Fox and the YES Network.
