dick van dyke getty Dick Van Dyke suffering from neurological disorder, cancels public appearanceThe legendary Dick Van Dyke has been sidelined by a neurological disorder, causing the 87-year-old to cancel a public appearance in New York that was scheduled for April 26.

Entertainment Tonight reports that the song-and-dance man won’t be attending an event at Manhattan’s 92nd Street Y due to “fatigue and lack of sleep resulting from symptoms of a yet-to-be diagnosed neurological disorder.” Van Dyke’s rep adds that medical advice has prompted the actor to cancel all commitments requiring air travel. He’s currently resting at his home in Malibu, CA.

Van Dyke was to be presented with the Y’s very first Lifetime Achievement Award for Bettering Humanity through Comedy. The honor comes on the heels of his receiving the Life Achievement Award at the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Beyond his illustrious career in TV and film, which has included “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Diagnosis: Murder” and “Mary Poppins,” to name but a few,” Van Dyke has spent the last two decades volunteering at the Midnight Mission, a shelter in downtown Los Angeles for the troubled and homeless.
