julie andrews sound of music live Did Julie Andrews watch Carrie Underwood's 'Sound of Music Live'?

A lot of people tuned into “The Sound of Music Live!” when it premiered on NBC on Dec. 5, but was Julie Andrews one of them? According to the “Sound of Music” movie star, she was otherwise engaged.

“Alas, I did not [see it]. I had a speaking engagement and I couldn’t. But my kids did record it. I’ll get around to it,” Andrews tells The Boston Herald while promoting another retelling of one of her classic films, “Saving Mr. Banks.”

While Andrews admits to the Herald that “Mary Poppins” author P.L. Travers wasn’t initially a fan of her for the movie’s title role, Andrews had no similar reservations about Carrie Underwood taking over as Maria. In an interview with Zap2it, Andrews had nothing but good will for her successor.

“Fifty years later, it’s time somebody had another crack at it. I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it’s great that it’s being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting for Carrie,” Andrews said. “It’s a lovely piece, and I do hope it works for Carrie, because she’s lovely and I’m a fan. I wish her well.”

NBC will re-air “The Sound of Music Live” on Dec. 14 at 8 p.m.
