cruella de vil disney resized Disney Channel producing 'Descendants' film with kids of classic villains Our dream castEver wondered what the offspring of Cruella De Vil and Jafar might be like? The Disney Channel is certainly hoping so.

The network announced on Thursday (Dec. 12) that it had put into production “Descendants,” a live-action adventure-comedy original film that tells the modern day story of the teenage progeny of some of Disney’s most evil villains (Cruella, Jafar, Maleficent and the Evil Queen) as they question their evil lineage.

The official description of the film, to be directed by Kenny Ortega (“High School Musical”) from Disney: “In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic “Beauty and the Beast”) is poised to take the throne.  His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters.  These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes, including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan.  However, the evil teens face a dilemma.  Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?”

Those highly unoriginal character names aside (Seriously, the Evil Queen names her daughter Evvie?), the proposed film sounds like it could be a ton of fun. Who doesn’t love seeing beloved characters reinvented in a new light? Case in point: “Once Upon a Time.” With casting underway for a proposed 2015 premiere, we thought we’d offer our suggestions for the teenage character and their villainous parental counterparts.

Carlos and Cruella De Vil: Jake T. Austin and Eva Green

jake eva gi Disney Channel producing 'Descendants' film with kids of classic villains Our dream castWe’re not sure how Cruella wound up with a Carlos for a son (we’re imagining it has something to do with his father), but Green would inhabit the insane villainess’ furs wonderfully. Austin, already a member of the Disney family, would fit right in, as well.

Mal and Maleficent: Shay Mitchell and Sutton Foster

As for Maleficent herself, well, it’s safe to say Angelina Jolie might be out of Disney Channel’s pay grade. Foster’s never really had the chance to play evil, but this might be the perfect opportunity. Can we get her fitted for those horns immediately?

Evvie and the Evil Queen: Julia Goldani Telles and Idina Menzel

julia idina gi Disney Channel producing 'Descendants' film with kids of classic villains Our dream castTelles had that “evil with a hint of goodness” thing down to a science on “Bunheads.” She’d totally make the Evil Queen proud, fitting in perfectly with Disney’s description. As for the Queen herself, it has to be Menzel. And then she and Foster can sing at some point and we’ll all love this movie even more.

Jay and Jafar: Luke Pasqualino and Naveen Andrews

luke naveen gi Disney Channel producing 'Descendants' film with kids of classic villains Our dream castAndrews is already playing Jafar on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” and frankly, ever since “Lost,” he’s the only person we’ve been able to imagine in the role. So, job done. Pasqualino was terrific on “Skins” in the UK and he looks like he could pull off playing Andrews’ son perfectly.
