When Missy was disintegrated by a Cyberman in the Season 8 finale of “Doctor Who,” you might have thought her death was permanent. Considering all the pain and turmoil she caused for the Doctor and Clara, this regeneration of the Master was a real pain that needed to be destroyed as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, she still has business with the Doctor and will be returning sooner rather than later. Michelle Gomez, who plays Missy, revealed to Doctor Who Magazine (via Radio Times) that she will definitely be back in Season 9.
“‘Yes’ is my answer,” she says. “I’ll be back. Can I say that? Am I allowed? If not … well, I guess we’ll have to see how she’s received.”
Despite being a troublesome villain, her return is a good thing for the series. Though it took a while to get to her purpose, Missy is a good foil for the Doctor. She’s also a female Time Lord (Time Lady?), which is something fans have been demanding for years. She just happens to be evil, proving Whovians can’t always get what they want.
More Missy means the Doctor will keep having someone around to vent his rage on over the fact he was lied to about Gallifrey’s location. Plus, with Clara seemingly exiting the series (though she will be back for the Christmas special), Missy likely will have an entirely new companion to play with. Now it just needs to be revealed how “Doctor Who” will bring her back.
