Barack obama - President Barack Obama has won this year's Nobel Peace Price.

Um, for what?

Not to be a naysayer, but there are still troops in Iraq, more troops in and heading to Afghanistan, lots of loose nukes, and the threat of increased nuclear proliferation. (He-Lo, Iran?).

Not to mention the ongoing civil wars in Africa that are leaving millions dead,

homeless and starving.

The selection of Obama is considered a real international shocker. But it sounds like the award is more for what lies ahead than what he has actually managed to accomplish.

Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, told reporters, "We are not awarding the prize for what may happen in the future but for what he has done in the previous year. We would hope this will enhance what he is trying to do."

On the upside, Obama has sought reductions in nuclear

arsenals and wants to restart peace talks between Israel and Palestine.

The only other sitting POTUS to win the Nobel Peace Prize were Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Jimmy Carter's peace prize was given to him after he left office.

Obama said he is "humbled" by the award.

As he should be, some would say.

What do you think? Is this too much Nobel, too soon?

Or is it nice to see a U.S. president honored for encouraging world peace? FINALLY.

More Obama Dish

New book claims Obama has a JFK way with women.

Oh, bum-a! Did Barack really check out a girl's derriere at the G8 Summit?
