While it’s not been confirmed by Marvel, rumor has it that the studio is moving forward with a second TV series centered around Hayley Atwell‘s Peggy Carter. Titled “Agent Carter” like the Marvel One Shot of the same name, the series is expected to expand upon the story told in that previously-released short film.
The concept of “Agent Carter” would be to continue telling the post-World War II story of Peggy, as “Captain America: The First Avenger’s” sequel “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” moves the first film’s storyline forward to the present day. Another actor left in the past after “The First Avenger” and “Agent Carter” was Dominic Cooper, whose Howard Stark (father of Iron Man Tony Stark) doesn’t have a role in the modern Marvel storyline.
Zap2it chatted with Cooper for a few minutes at TCA 2014 winter press tour, where he was promoting his new BBC America miniseries “Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond.” Cooper has spoken to Atwell about the “Agent Carter” TV series, and says he would very much like a role in it.
“I would like to do any way possible that Howard Stark can make a return. He’s such a fun character to play, and I really believe that he could make quite an exciting character to watch more of,” Cooper tells Zap2it. “The flawed entrepreneur, the kind of crazy playboy, from that era is an exciting concept. I saw Hayley recently, and I think that the ‘Carter’ thing is possibly going to happen, so yeah. I’d love to. I wouldn’t hesitate.”
Beyond “Fleming” and the 2008 three-part miniseries “Sense & Sensibility,” Cooper has never committed long term to a TV series before. He doesn’t seem to consider that to be much of a drawback though.
“It depends how those things play out. You never know. And Marvel, they have such an incredible way of changing the format or how it’s going to be seen or how your character could return, so I would just like that character to return because I know now that ‘Captain America’ has moved on and has moved into the present,” Cooper says. “It’s very hard to work a way in which he should be in the current films, but you never know. There’s always talk of how [to bring him back], and I know I’d be very much up for playing him again.”
Like Captain America, Cooper jokes that he imagines Howard Stark could also be easily frozen away somewhere to be brought back into the present day. Here’s hoping.
“Fleming” premieres on BBC America on Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is due in theaters on April 14.
