lady mary charles blake downton abbey Ratings: 'Downton Abbey' holds on to runner up spot against the Super BowlOnce again, PBS’ “Downton Abbey” held up reasonably well against the Super Bowl, earning the No. 2 spot across primetime behind the big game for the third year in a row.

Per Nielsen fast national ratings, “Downton” earned 6.8 million viewers and a 4.9 household rating, which is up slightly from the episode that aired against the Super Bowl in 2013. It should be noted, however, that the non-Super Bowl networks were airing either reruns or a movie.

“Downton” continues to be a ratings boon for PBS. Its Season 4 premiere earned 10.2 million viewers, which is a record for the station. A fifth season has been commissioned by ITV in the U.K. Beyond that, the fate of the show is not yet known.

“Downton Abbey” airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on PBS.
