Maggie-Smith-in-Downton-Abbey.jpg“Downton Abbey” is quickly drawing to a close for Season 3. There are only two episodes left to air, plus the Christmas special that airs in December. And ITV has released the details for the 90-minute season finale, airing Sunday, Nov. 4 in the U.K.

There is excitement in the house and village as the annual cricket match approaches, and it brings out Robert’s competitive side.

As Violet’s great niece Rose arrives, a trip to London reveals there is more to her than meets the eye.

Thomas’s future is in Carson’s hands, but Bates may be an unlikely ally.

What secrets are Mary and Matthew holding back from each other?

The annual village cricket match! Oh, the drama! We kid, we kid.

We’re really more intrigued by the rest of the description. It’s fun to meet more of the family — do you suppose Rose is Violet’s sister or brother’s granddaughter? Or perhaps she is from Violet’s late husband’s side of the family? Either way, we hope Rose is there to stir some things up for Season 4. Fresh faces are never a bad thing.

No surprise that Bates would take up Thomas’ side. The whole Bates character revolves around being gallant and upstanding, and if Thomas’ troubles are heading where we think they’re heading (read: Jimmy), Bates will be a good man to have on his side.

Finally, we aren’t sure what the “secrets” could be between Mary and Matthew, but it just wouldn’t be “Downton” if those two were immediately living happily ever after.
