Shirley MacLaine was recently honored by the American Film Institute and part of her ceremony included “Downton Abbey” star Elizabeth McGovern introducing a clip of MacLaine guest-starring as McGovern’s mother on Season 3 of the show.

In the clip, MacLaine’s character Martha Levinson arrives at Downton and finds it “too much the same,” much to the consternation of Lady Violet, the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith). Martha also remarks how the war made old women of them both, which Lady Violet is sure to love.

“Downton Abbey” returns for Season 3 in the fall in the United Kingdom, but us poor folks Stateside will have to wait for January 2013. It seems so far away!
