downton abbey season 3 cast 'Downton Abbey' Season 4 adds first black character and names Lady Mary's new love interest“Downton Abbey” may be all about showcasing class relations in turn-of-the-century England, but so far, anything to do with race has not entered the picture. Until now.

According to U.K. newspaper The Sun, the show is currently casting musician Jack Ross, who is described as “male, 25-30. A musician (singer) at an exclusive club in the 20s. He’s black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma.”

The casting notice adds that the actor should “ideally be able to sing brilliantly” and that overall he should be “very attractive” with “a certain wow factor.” We don’t yet know who he’ll be interacting with, but our money is on Rose. We already know she has an affinity for nightclubs.

But that is not all of the juicy news out of the casting notices. The show has also named Lady Mary’s new love.

The character is called “Lord Anthony Gillingham” and is described as 35 to 45 years old, “good looking, very charismatic,” sporting a “perfect cut glass accent.” He’s “warm and charming, but also a strong man with morals.” The casting notice also says he’ll be helping the family with their money woes.

Money woes at Downton? Must be Sunday.

The third character listed is Sir John Bullock, who “must be able to act drunk.” There is no where as to exactly how he fits into things at Downton.

Filming for the fourth season of the hit British drama is set to begin March 23.
