Think British period drama “Downton Abbey” and action-packed fantasy adaptation “Game of Thrones” don’t have much in common? Think again, friends. Turns out their soaring theme songs make an excellent mashup.

The above video comes courtesy of Sagar Jethani, with his dog Duncan getting a credit for barking in the background. It actually sounds wonderful together — we can’t believe no one did this before now.

The “Downton” theme is also strikingly similar to “The X-Files” theme music, as witnessed by the mashup below. We think we prefer the “Game of Thrones” mashup to the “Downton”/”X Files” side-by-side. What do you think, fans?

The mashup did get us thinking of what else “Downton” and “GOT” have in common, which is more than one might imagine. They both have lavish costumes and sets, plenty of scheming characters and gut-wrenching character deaths — though “Downton” creator Julian Fellowes says he’s going to lay off the deaths in Season 4, while we can’t imagine “GOT” will be doing anything of the sort in Season 3.

“Downton” currently airs on Sunday nights on PBS, while “Game of Thrones” returns for its third season to HBO on March 31. “The X Files” went off the air over 10 years ago.
