Normally, we wouldn’t give a whole lot of thought to an action movie being released in the relative doldrums of mid-September. But “Drive” might have a little something more to offer.
For starters, it features a cast led by Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling, playing a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a wheelman for criminals. His co-stars include Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Albert Brooks.
Then there’s the fact that director Nicholas Winding Refn won the best director award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and suddenly we’re kind of intrigued. The trailer, which showcases a couple of nice-looking action sequences and some slow, lyrical camera moves, is also pretty darn cool.
So, yeah, we think we might be in. “Drive” opens on Sept. 16. Here’s the trailer:
