willie robertson state of the union obama gi 'Duck Dynasty's' Willie Robertson invited to State of the Union address

The “Duck Dynasty” Phil Robertson controversy has barely died down, and the Robertson family isn’t quite forgiven by all of the general public for the comments its patriarch said regarding homosexuality and slavery. But like it or not, his son Willie Robertson will be attending the 2014 State of the Union address.

Republican Louisiana congressman Vance McAllister invited Willie to take one of the House seats and watch President Barack Obama deliver his speech. During his campaign, McAllister was backed by Willie’s dad Phil, which is believed to be what landed him the 5th District seat.

While it would have caused more of a controversy if Phil had attended the State of the Union, it still is a bit surprising that Willie would be invited. It’s no secret that the Robertson family politics don’t exactly align with Obama’s.

This address comes at a time when Obama’s approval rating is 43 percent. The State of the Union is expected to address income inequality and other issues, and will begin airing at 9 p.m. ET on Jan. 28.
