ABC announced Thursday (March 8) that a new music competition series is on its way to your TV screens. “Duets” will feature four established music industry stars, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke, pairing up with an amateur singer to help said amateur compete for a recording contract.

The show will debut in summer 2012. Each superstar singer will “set out on a journey across America looking for undiscovered talent worthy of being their proteges,” according to the ABC press release. Then each superstar and his or her protege will take to the stage each week to perform live. One duet will win and the amateur singer will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

Amateur singers interested in auditioning for the Superstars as they travel the country looking for talent can apply online at:

We kind of wish the celebrities had to incorporate an element of “Survivor” or that ESPN show “Beg Borrow and Deal” – like they are journeying across the U.S. with only $20 in their pocket and no mode of transportation. That would really up the ante, we think.

What do you think of “Duets,” Zappers?
