dwayne johnson hbo pilot Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg team up again for HBO pilotDwayne “The Rock” Johnson is expanding his media reach a little further, signing on to star in and produce a pilot for HBO.

The show, which Johnson’s “Pain and Gain” costar Mark Wahlberg is executive producing, is a half-hour dramedy about retired athletes living in Miami. Wahlberg’s producing partner, Stephen Levinson, will write the pilot script, and Peter Berg (“Battleship,” “Friday Night Lights”) is in line to direct.

As described, the show has a definite “Entourage” vibe, following the lives of a group of retired athletes, presumably some of them wealthy and famous, in Miami. So let’s call it “Jocktourage” for now. The pilot will mark Johnson’s first starring role in a scripted series (his WWE days notwithstanding).

Levinson and Wahlberg have a long relationship with HBO. In addition to “Entourage,” they’ve executive produced “Boardwalk Empire,” “In Treatment” and “How to Make It in America.”

Johnson will also be the host of TNT’s competition series “The Hero” this summer, and he also stars in “Fast & Furious 6,” which hits theaters on May 24.
