Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have had the spotlight on them since before they could formulate a sentence, but their 22-year-old little sis, Elizabeth Olsen, is just starting to make her way into a high-profile acting career. Starring in “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” Elizabeth covers the current issue of Nylon Magazine.
There’s certainly no denying the family resemblance with those big eyes and lips — we were once told that MK&A like to say the word “prune” when a photo is being taken to get just the right amount of pout happening, but that could be a rumor.
Elizabeth is certainly no strangers to rumors flying about her sisters. She initially dodged screen acting after seeing her sisters’ lives become overrun by paparazzi and autograph hounds. “I just always thought that theater was different
from being an actor in Hollywood for some reason. It was like this safe
place where people aren’t harassed. But I was apprehensive because I saw
how brutal people can be when other people put themselves out there,” she tells the mag.
While she does look up to her big sisters — particularly given their financial independence — Elizabeth says she owes her work ethic to her dad.
“I have to attribute the way I have always looked
at [work] to my father, because he was a really good influence on us,” she says. “It
was always very important to him that his daughters be financially
independent. He wanted us to know that we could take care of ourselves,
because he never liked the idea of us needing a man. And witnessing how
my sisters can take care of themselves financially was a great model to
have. I consider myself lucky to have such a normal family.“
Normal is relative, we suppose.
