edie falco emmy win Emmys 2010: Edie Falco's history making 'Nurse Jackie' win

Edie Falco‘s Emmy win for lead actress in a comedy for her work on “Nurse Jackie” isn’t just her first in the category — it’s the first time any actress who’s previously won for lead in a drama took home top comedic honors.

As you probably remember, her work as Carmela on “The Sopranos” earned her three awards for lead
actress in a drama throughout the series’ six-season run.

The only individuals to take top honors in both fields of programming up until now have been men — Carroll O’Connor (for “All in the Family” and “In the Heat of the Night”) and Robert Young (for “Father Knows Best” and “Marcus Welby, M.D.”), which Deadline points out.

But where the boys don’t have her beat is the frequency of the awards. “Nurse Jackie” is Falco’s first post-“Sopranos” role, and her win marks the first time a TV actor of any gender has won Emmys for lead roles on consecutive series.
