jane lynch cory monteith tribute emmys 2013 gi Emmys 2013: A simple Cory Monteith tribute by Jane LynchAwards shows are not known for their subtlety, but the brief tribute to Cory Monteith at the 2013 Emmy Awards was touchingly understated. The late actor’s “Glee” costar, Jane Lynch, said only a few words. When those words say a lot, not many are needed.

The tribute was made by Lynch alone, standing on an empty stage with only a single photo behind her. She got quickly to the point. After describing Monteith’s part of Fin Hudson on “Glee,” Lynch noted that “all that warmth and that charm, that open-hearted quality that we all loved was no act.”

It almost seemed like Lynch’s stoicism was even more moving than any big demonstration. The words never strayed into anything overblown. Lynch never claimed that Monteith was the most important young actor of our age. Instead, the actor was never more than what he was: A young man tragically struck down by addiction.

Possibly the sweetest moment of all was when Lynch told the “generation that loved Cory so” that “this gifted, young man was worthy of your love.”

Is there any tribute better than that?
