As a tribute to what is perhaps the watershed year in television moments that changed this country from a newspaper and radio audience to a TV audience, Carrie Underwood took to the stage to perform the famous Beatles song “Yesterday” for the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards.
The introduction by Don Cheadle featured a montage of the Walter Cronkite delivering the news of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, the subsequent assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald and the image of his 3-year-old son JFK Jr. saluting his casket.
The intro shifted focus to the Beatles’ first performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” then Underwood performed the beautiful ballad. Video below.
