“I am so honored to be presenting alongside this groundbreaking actress, a hero of mine, and the first African-American Emmy nominee ever, male or female,” says Washington, of Carroll. In case you weren’t award, Carroll was nominated in 1963 for “Naked City.”

“Thank you very much. It’s been such a long time since I’ve been standing in this place, I don’t know what to do. But the men are much more beautiful than when I was doing television. I don’t know where you came from, but I’m very happy to see you. After all, my leading man was Lloyd Nolan and those of you who know what that means, don’t repeat to anyone,” says Carroll. She is referring to her “Julia” co-star pictured above. He’s … not that bad.

“Julia” was the show Carroll starred on for four seasons in the 1960s and which earned her her second Emmy nomination.

Before getting to the Emmy presentation for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, Carroll gives her two cents on Washington’s nomination for “Scandal”:

“I must say congratulations to this woman that I feel is a gift to all of us, she’s brilliantly talented, she’s very lovely and tonight she better get this award. It’s Miss Kerry Washington.”

These two should just present all the awards. And in between, Carroll can laud us with tales of old Hollywood.
