elton john emmys 2013 Emmys 2013: Elton John pays tribute to Liberace with 'Home Again'

He wasn’t on any TV shows, but Elton John got more stage time at the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards than just about anyone who isn’t named Neil Patrick Harris. Elton was introduced by “Behind The Candelabra” stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as he performed a new song about Liberace, “Home Alone.”
The song wasn’t bad, but many online wondered why so much time was devoted to John’s performance while the night’s winners were all played off the stage while giving their acceptance speeches. Well, not all the winners, as Merritt Wever gave perhaps the shortest speech of all time.
In the grand scheme of things, while “Behind the Candelabra” is an Emmy-nominated TV movie, having Elton sing a song about Liberace seems a bit out of place on a show that is going to be running late as it is.
What did you think of the tribute?

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
