mark steines red carpet nc 325 'Entertainment Tonight' alum Mark Steines finds his 'sweet spot' with 'Home & Family'Mark Steines is ready for viewers to know him much more than they already might.

After almost 17 years as an  “Entertainment Tonight” anchor-reporter, he’s moving to another daily television berth, and one he acknowledges is “a big piece of real estate”: Hallmark Channel’s two-hour weekday program “Home & Family,” which he’ll co-host with “Trading Spaces” veteran Paige Davis starting Monday, Oct. 1.

That much air time per week, plus the many household and family matters that husband and father Steines will tackle on the show, ensure his audience will be very familiar with him.

“If somebody were to say, ‘You get to take your life and make it your job,’ that to me is the sweet spot,” he tells Zap2it. “One of my two sons came in the other day and said, ‘Hey, the front gate’s fixed! I’ll bet you fixed it, didn’t you, Dad?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I did.’

“I have a to-do list. I have to get earthquake-preparedness-kit stuff together, I have a trash compactor that needs to be fixed, we’re working on refinancing so there’s escrow paperwork … I mean, this is almost a rundown of the show. And we can talk about it and expand on it: ‘When do you refinance?’ This will either be an amazing opportunity or the biggest sin I’ve ever committed, because my job will be my life.”

Married to Leanza Cornett, who was Miss America 1993, the genial Steines is looking forward to the image change he believes “Home & Family” will bring him. “Instead of the question, ‘Who’s the best celebrity you’ve ever interviewed?,’ I have a feeling it’ll shift to, ‘What’s the best gadget on the market right now?’ Or, ‘What’s the best thing I can do for my home if I’ve got mold spores?’

“I welcome that, along with less hair-and-makeup,” Steines adds with a knowing chuckle. “I’ve told our stylist on the show, ‘If we need to, let’s just let it go gray. I don’t care.’ Chances are we’re going to be having water-balloon fights, so let’s just make it wash-and-go.”
