It’s that time of year again. Time for the Syfy holiday specials. This year, we’re getting some holiday joy from “Eureka,” “Warehouse 13” and “Haven.” We were lucky enough to chat with stars Colin Ferguson, Eddie McClintock and Emily Rose about the specials, their popularity and whether or not there is still a chance for “Eureka” to be saved.
“Eureka” has an animated special this year,” Ferguson said. “We do 15 minutes of live action, and in an attempt to make snow in Eureka, we turn everyone into a cartoon, and hijinks ensue. We go through about 10 different kinds of animation and then our hour ends and nine o’clock starts…”
McClintock continued, “We have ‘Warehouse 13’ which is basically our version of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ We find out … that Pete never existed. He has to come back into their lives and convince them that they should partner up with him to defeat MacPherson, played by Roger Rees, who is back.”
“Then we move on to ten o’clock,” said Rose, “the witching hour on Syfy. We visit the town of Haven, Maine and everything is very Mayberry-esque and it’s not snowy at all. Nathan (Lucas Bryant) and Duke (Eric Balfour) are convinced that it’s Christmas and Audrey disagrees as usual. She has to restore everything back to normal.”
We asked about the popularity of the holiday episodes. Rose talked about how loyal and dedicated the Syfy fans are. “I think that when they have been missing their shows, this is a great gift for the fans to be able to see these characters again … I know when I was growing up, it was nice to watch these characters going through the holidays, just like I was. For a brief moment in time, you feel like you’re all existing in the same world.”
We couldn’t resist asking if there was any chance of a last minute save for “Eureka.” “I don’t know. I mean, I’d love to think there is always a chance, you know? I know that there is a good chance that we could come back in the form of one-off movie or a two-part movie. To be picked up as a series again would depend … I don’t know. We’d have to do really really well this summer.”
