For a short period of time Thursday, it seemed like Facebook was in control. Due to a mistake in Facebook’s code, millions of websites around the world automatically redirected people to an error page on, according to CNBC.
Visitors to sites like CNN, The Washington Post, and even Zap2it were sent away from what they were reading, and instead taken to The error only happened if you were logged into your Facebook account at the time. It had to do with Facebook widgets, used widely on on the internet to share links on your timeline.
In a statement, Facebook explained the error, “For a short period of time, there was a bug that redirected people from third party sites integrated with Facebook to The issue was quickly resolved.” Not even an apology? No “sorry for breaking the internet, you guys?”
Who knows, this could also end in a class action lawsuit.
