James_Bulger_1994.jpgAfter being on the run for over 15 years, crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger was finally caught by the FBI this June… but not without a little help.

The FBI confirms that they paid out $2.1 million in reward money to the tipsters who aided their search for Bulger, who fled
his home in Boston in 1994. The FBI did not identify the recipients of the reward money, obviously, but they did note that it was paid to more than one individual. $2 million was paid out for Bulger’s arrest, while $100,000 went to the tipster who helped the FBI apprehend his girlfriend, Catherine Greig.

Just before Bulger fled, warrant was issued for his arrest in
connection with a slew of crimes that took place in the 1970s and ’80s,
including 19 murders, narcotics distribution, and racketeering. He was arrested at age 82 with his 60-year-old girlfriend. They had 30 firearms and $822,000 in cash hidden in holes in the wall of their Santa Monica apartment.

Both Bulger and Greig have plead Not Guilty.
