fifty shades of grey cover 'Fifty Shades of Grey' outsells 'Harry Potter' in the U.K.Apparently Muggles are into S&M — and we don’t mean “sorcery and magic.” On Monday (July 30), E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy officially outsold J.K. Rowling’s seven-book Harry Potter saga to become the bestselling books of all time on Amazon U.K.

More than four million copies of the books have been sold — both in print and in digital format — since they went on sale in March. In fact, the final Potter book — “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” — is being outsold more than two to one by the first book in James’ trilogy, reports the Huffington Post.

In the U.S., the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been perched atop the bestseller list for 139 days. The books — derided as “mommy porn” — follow the adventures of a young college grad who falls in love with a dominating business magnate and details (in detail) their sexual adventures. It’s also considered one of the hottest properties in Hollywood right now with everyone from Ian Somerhalder to Miley Cyrus angling to star in the big screen adaptation.

As Tim Worstall at Forbes points out, this marks another milestone: Since “Fifty Shades” started life as “Twilight” fan fiction, it also makes “Twilight” author Stephanie Meyer the first author to be outsold by her own fanfic.
