Now promoting his new book, “Honor Bound, My Journey to Hell and Back With Amanda Knox,” Sollecito tells Katie Couric on her talk show Tuesday (Sept. 18) that he was afraid to see her after they were freed on appeal in 2011. The pair reunited in Knox’s hometown of Seattle earlier this year.

“When she hugged me, I realized she was not my ghost, my nightmare,” Sollecito tells Couric.

He says he and Knox stayed in touch during their four years in prison via weekly notes and continued to Skype and email after they were released.

When asked whether he regrets meeting Knox, Sollecito says, “No. It was not her fault. It was the fault of the detectives.”

Rudy Guede was also convicted of Kercher’s murder and is currently serving a 16-year sentence. Sollecito and Knox are still facing an appeal by prosecutors to have them both resentenced to life in prison.
