kyle chandler FOX (and Kyle Chandler?) land on 'Terra Nova'FOX may be heading deep into the past next season with a show called “Terra Nova,” and “Friday Night Lights” star Kyle Chandler may be going along for the ride.

TV veteran Brannon Braga (“FlashForward,” “24,” “Star Trek: Voyager” and “Enterprise”) has come aboard the show as executive producer and showrunner, and that puts the show on track for a pickup for the 2010-11 season. According to, the show has received an “unofficial” pickup and has been given the go-ahead to start hiring staff.

Meanwhile, a separate report on says Chandler — who’s currently working on the fifth and likely last season of “Friday Night Lights” — has received a “lucrative offer” to star in the show, which centers on a family from the 22nd century who travels back in time. Way back, in fact: They wind up co-existing with dinosaurs.

If both the pickup and Chandler’s deal go through, it would put Chandler in the odd position of starring in a new show before his old one finishes airing. The fifth season of “FNL” is set to air on DirecTV in the fall but won’t debut on NBC until 2011. Season 4 of “FNL” premieres on NBC on May 7.

Craig Silverstein (“Bones,” “The Inside”) and Kelly Marcel wrote the “Terra Nova” pilot, which is based on an idea by Marcel. Braga was brought in because Silverstein also created and is executive producing The CW’s pilot “Nikita,” which is looking good for a pickup there.

“Terra Nova’s” executive producers also include Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin, the former president and COO of FOX parent News Corp.
