Fox News is calling Jim Carrey‘s bluff after he released a scathing statement slamming the network’s journalists and threatening legal action against them. Carrey was criticized by hosts of Fox News debate panel, “The Five” after entering the gun control conversation with a Funny Or Die video called “Cold Dead Hand.”
In the video, Carrey mocks the late Charlton Heston’s gun advocacy and penis size in a parody of classic variety show “Hee Haw.” Carrey announced via Twitter that the video is about “u heartless motherf***ers unwilling 2 bend 4 the safety of our kids.” Carrey now says the video, which has garnered 1.8 million views online in just three days, is “forcing intolerent [sic] goons everywhere to show their hideous face.”
Carrey sings a song in the video with lyrics that include:
“Charlton Heston movies are no longer in demand
And his immortal soul may lay forever in the sand
The angels wouldn’t take him up to Heaven like he planned
‘Cause they couldn’t pry that gun from his cold dead hand”
The video and surrounding controversy prompted gun advocates to post listings on eBay advertising Carrey’s autographed photos for sale for reasons such as “so I can afford a gun.” It also attracted the attention of “The Five” hosts, who criticized Carrey for attacking a man “who can’t respond because he’s dead” and told “fly over country” that Carrey “hates you.”
Carrey responded with a press release that refuses to even acknowledge the name Fox. “Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue,” says Carrey in his statement. He also claims he “would take them to task legally if I felt they were worth my time or that anyone with a brain in their head could actually fall for such irresponsible buffoonery.”
Now the hosts of “The Five” are calling Carrey’s bluff. “You talked out of your arse,” says host Bob Beckel. “Come sue us. Bring your arse, and we’ll bring what little brains we have and see what happens.”
Beckel’s co-host, Greg Gutfeld explains, “Jim Carrey is in this letter threatening legal action, something Charlton Heston can’t do because Charlton Heston is dead. That was the whole point — to stand up for somebody who couldn’t talk back to a fool like Jim Carrey.” Gutfeld also claims Carrey’s video “insulted most of America.” Sounds like it’s your move, Jim Carrey.
